FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I REGISTER TO TAKE AN API EXAM?

You can only register for an exam through API. Online registration is available at http://www.api.org/products-and-services/individual-certification-programs. Each exam has a registration deadline and there are specific dates, or an exam window, that you can take the exam. See the API exam schedule here.

WHERE SHOULD I TAKE THE EXAM?

Once API has approved your application you are sent an email inviting you to schedule a date and location for your exam with Prometric. Most CODEWEST students try to schedule the exam in Houston as close to the end the Exam Prep Course as possible.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LONGER COURSE AND THE SHORTER COURSE?

There is no difference in the material covered.  The shorter course will provide a different daily format with the same quality instruction as the 10 day.  CODEWEST offers two choices to let you decide which would best fit with your schedule and experience. If this is your first time testing with API we recommend the 10 day course.

HOW DO I RESERVE A SPOT IN AN EXAM PREP COURSE?

Our Exam Prep Courses often fill up early and close to the API exam registration deadline. The only way to reserve a spot is to register for the course. Pre-Course Study Guides are sent no less than 30 days before the first day of class and usually a week or so early. Only fully registered students with tuition paid in full are sent the guides.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A CODEWEST EXAM PREP COURSE?

*Registering for a CODEWEST Exam Prep Course does NOT register you for the API exam.

WHAT IS THE COST OF TUITION AND WHAT DOES THAT INCLUDE?

The tuition for the 10 day Exam Prep Course is $2,200.00. The tuition for the 8 day Exam Prep Course is $1,800.00 and the 5 day Exam Prep Course (API 1169 only) is $1,169.00

The tuition for all courses include the Course Material Binder and a Pre-Course Study Guide that will be emailed to students 30 days prior to the first day of class.  (the API 1169 does NOT include pre-course study guide).

The cost of tuition DOES NOT include: API exam registration, API Codes, hotel or travel accommodations.

REFUND/TRANSFER POLICY

Please Note - Once a transfer is scheduled, the standard cancellation/refund policy (as spelled out in your registration confirmation email) will NOT apply and your credit will be good for one year.  If the student is unable to attend the class within one year of original registration, all tuition and fees will not be refunded and full purchase price of course will be required to register.

WHAT ABOUT HOTEL AND TRAVEL ACCOMMODATIONS?

Airline Reservations:

Houston has two major airports: George Bush Intercontinental and Hobby. George Bush is about 8 miles from the course location and Hobby is about 29 miles from the course location.

Transportation and Rental cars:

There is a shuttle from George Bush Intercontinental Airport to the hotel. The class location is convenient to several restaurants and some shopping. However Houston is an automobile oriented city and a car, though not a necessity, is an option to consider.
